Waterborne Skateboards was founded in 2016 by Patrick Dumas in Costa Mesa, California. Dumas, a former student at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), started the company as a student, inspired by his passion for skateboarding and surfing. He developed the Surf Adapter™, an accessory that replicates the sensations of surfing on a skateboard.

The brand quickly gained popularity due to the efficiency and ease of installation of their products. They also stood out by introducing conversion systems for electric skateboards and customizing the user experience with various accessories.
